The many-domed Parliament buildings are an impressive sight, particularly at night when the facades are illuminated by thousands of lights which reflect in the waters of the harbour.Johnstone Strait is one of the best places in the world to see orca as well as humpback, minke and grey whales. 

Whales are also prevalent off the west coast, where the Pacific Ocean is fringed by the endless beaches and lush forests of world-famous Pacific Rim National Park. 

At the northern end of the island, board a ferry from Port Hardy to take a leisurely cruise through the scenic Inside Passage to Prince Rupert on the mainland.
